ABBEY

When I woke, I was sprawled across Liam. Duke was gone. When I asked Liam where he went off to so early, he said Duke had some business to take care of. My stomach twisted, thinking maybe yesterday was too much, and he was avoiding me. The past few days, I’d discovered Duke had a routine. He got up early, went for a run, and then came home, showered, and made breakfast. Duke was nowhere to be found, the kitchen was empty, and Jax was asleep on the couch.

What if he didn’t enjoy last night as much as I had? Maybe it was only supposed to be one night, and today we were going back to the way things were. My heart ached at that thought. I’d had the best sex of my life with Duke and Liam, and I didn’t want to go back. I wanted more of it. It sure felt like Liam wanted that too, by the way he kissed me before I left to meet the girls. It had taken a lot of convincing to let me go to breakfast without him. If he had his way, he would be feeding me breakfast in bed.

As much as I didn’t want to think it, we needed to get back to the reality of things. I lived in another state, and I just came out of a terrible relationship. I knew I needed to get home and pack my things. I needed to find a new place to live and a job.

I took my notebook with me, so I could start making a list of the things I needed to get done. “Do any of you know of any job openings around here?” I asked between bites of my pancakes.

“Why do you need a job, Abbs?” Blake’s eyebrows furrowed.

“I need to make some money.” I sighed, wishing I’d never let Jeff convince me not to work. “I can’t very well go back to Jeff’s. And I don’t have enough money saved for first and last month’s rent on a new place.”

“What about Liam and Duke?” Grace’s lips turned down.

“What about them?” It was foolish of me to think I had forever with them after just one night.

“Don’t you like them?” Grace’s eyebrows knitted together, and her forehead scrunched. I knew it was going to be hard to leave my best friends, but my life wasn’t here.

“Of course I do, but it’s just some rebound fling. I’m only here until I can get my feet under me.” I blew out a breath.

“There’s no such thing as a fling around here. We all should know,” Victoria said around her mouthful. It was her idea for pancakes this morning. It was her most recent pregnancy craving and we all happily indulged.

“Have you slept with them yet?” Jessie prodded.

My entire face heated. “Slept” felt like such an understatement for what we did.

“Oh. My. God. You have,” Grace squealed. “Please tell me those two are trying their damnedest to convince you to stay.”

“Grace, it just happened.
