ABBEY
When I woke, I was sprawled across Liam. Duke was gone. When I asked Liam where he went off to so early, he said Duke had some business to take care of. My stomach twisted, thinking maybe yesterday was too much, and he was avoiding me. The past few days, Iâd discovered Duke had a routine. He got up early, went for a run, and then came home, showered, and made breakfast. Duke was nowhere to be found, the kitchen was empty, and Jax was asleep on the couch.
What if he didnât enjoy last night as much as I had? Maybe it was only supposed to be one night, and today we were going back to the way things were. My heart ached at that thought. Iâd had the best sex of my life with Duke and Liam, and I didnât want to go back. I wanted more of it. It sure felt like Liam wanted that too, by the way he kissed me before I left to meet the girls. It had taken a lot of convincing to let me go to breakfast without him. If he had his way, he would be feeding me breakfast in bed.
As much as I didnât want to think it, we needed to get back to the reality of things. I lived in another state, and I just came out of a terrible relationship. I knew I needed to get home and pack my things. I needed to find a new place to live and a job.
I took my notebook with me, so I could start making a list of the things I needed to get done. âDo any of you know of any job openings around here?â I asked between bites of my pancakes.
âWhy do you need a job, Abbs?â Blakeâs eyebrows furrowed.
âI need to make some money.â I sighed, wishing Iâd never let Jeff convince me not to work. âI canât very well go back to Jeffâs. And I donât have enough money saved for first and last monthâs rent on a new place.â
âWhat about Liam and Duke?â Graceâs lips turned down.
âWhat about them?â It was foolish of me to think I had forever with them after just one night.
âDonât you like them?â Graceâs eyebrows knitted together, and her forehead scrunched. I knew it was going to be hard to leave my best friends, but my life wasnât here.
âOf course I do, but itâs just some rebound fling. Iâm only here until I can get my feet under me.â I blew out a breath.
âThereâs no such thing as a fling around here. We all should know,â Victoria said around her mouthful. It was her idea for pancakes this morning. It was her most recent pregnancy craving and we all happily indulged.
âHave you slept with them yet?â Jessie prodded.
My entire face heated. âSleptâ felt like such an understatement for what we did.
âOh. My. God. You have,â Grace squealed. âPlease tell me those two are trying their damnedest to convince you to stay.â
âGrace, it just happened.
